Espresso Maker Features
Once you’ve decided on
the basics and fundamentals you’re looking
for in your home espresso machine you
give a little thought to the “bells &
whistles”. Whether you’ve got a fully
automatic espresso machine that does all
the hard stuff for you or you’re a traditionalist
who takes pride in knowing how to use
an espresso machine, there are a few helpful
gadgets and features that are certainly
worth a look.
· Drip Tray: Make sure
it’s copious and easy to remove; cleaning
espresso machines is enough of a chore
as it is.
· Pressurized Portafilers:
These are the little handle/cup things
that hold coffee grounds; pressurized
ones only allow water in when the right
pressure occurs.
· Pods & Capsules:
Prepackaged coffee grounds that eliminate
the need for measuring your own, but only
some machines can use them.
· Auto-Grinder/Doser/Etc.:
And other numerous little labor/time saving
devices.
· Warming Trays: These
collect excess vented heat, but most home
espresso machines aren’t on long enough
for them to get very warm.
· Frothing Devices: Jet-wands
are the most common form of cappuccino
foam creating devices, but there are other
methods that work, sometimes as well.
· Bypass Valve: A luxury
uncommon to cheap espresso machines (and
most expensive ones) that vents residual
pressure, reducing excess water splatter.
