Overview
The wonderful thing about
slow cookers and roasters is that with
a little planning ahead (planning afterward
will do you no good) you can come home
to a delicious and possibly nutritious
meal that cooked itself while you were
doing other things. Just add the correct
ingredients, set the timer, and check
in on it 8 hours or so latter. Simple,
isn’t it?
Slow cookers and roasters help you save
as well. Save what? Well, time, obviously.
And sweat, not only effort-wise, but also
by keeping the kitchen cooler in the summer
than the stove does. Also money; it runs
on a little electricity, and cheap, lean
meats shrink less and become very tender
in a slow cooker.
Are they safe? You’d better believe it!
The direct, heat from the pot, combined
with the steam and the cooker cooking
slow kills bacteria far more thoroughly
than faster cooking methods (just make
sure you give the roaster or slow cooker
plenty of time to heat up when cooking
meat). Just stock up on slow cooker recipes
and you’ll be all set!
