Waffle Maker Cooking
Tips
Maybe you just whip up a batch
of waffle once in a blue moon, or perhaps
you have aspirations of being a professional
waffle maker; either way, who couldn’t use
a few waffle maker cooking tips? The following
pointers for getting the most out of you electric
waffle maker should be of some interest.
• When you 1st bring home a
new electric waffle maker be sure to treat
it with either a non-stick spray or wipe it
down with a little vegetable oil, then plug
it in for 30 minutes or so. After that let
the waffle maker cool completely and place
a couple of paper towels in it until you’re
ready to use it.
• Most electric waffle makers
have an indicator light that supposedly… well,
indicates when the cooking surface is hot
enough to bake you waffles. It’s advisable
to wait 5 or 10 minutes after it goes off,
however, to allow the cooking surface to heat
up evenly.
• Electric waffle makers often
advice you wait for the steam to stop to know
when the waffle is done, but that doesn’t
take certain variable into account, so it’s
best to eye it, adjusting cooking time with
subsequent waffles (5 minutes is a good rule
of thumb).
• Never wash the waffle grid;
it’s supposed to be covered in a layer of
oil from each use. This allows the batter
flavor to seep into every waffle you make
(instead of the taste of dish-soap). Scrub
the nastier, crustier areas with a dry nylon
brush when the grid has totally cooled.
