Blenders and Hand-mixers
When choosing a blender or
a hand-mixer one must take into account one’s
needs. To begin with, does one need a blender,
a hand-mixer or both, and what is the difference.
A blender is comprised of a base housing a motor,
spinning blades and a pitcher or container that
sits above them and holds the material being
blended. A hand-mixer, or hand held blender,
is a kind of wand with a spinning blade at one
end that is lowered into a bowl containing the
mixable material. Blenders are often used as
a blender juicer and are best for crushing ice,
making smoothies and the like, while a hand
held mixer is better for stirring soup and chopping/pureeing
smallish amounts of vegetables.
Extremely large and powerful blenders and hand-mixers
are generally better suited for commercial use;
the average user can get by with smaller, cheaper
models and still get the desired results every
time. In a blender and food processor combination
the blender is combined with a food processor,
which handles solids much better than blenders.
