Belgian Waffle
Makers
What is the difference between Belgian
Waffles and other kinds of waffles anyway? I’m glad
I asked! Belgian Waffles are generally acknowledged
to be thicker, yet lighter in texture, than other
waffles because of the use of beaten eggs and yeast
in the batter rather than baking powder. They’re
often served with fruit or whipped cream because
they’re more desert-like.
Belgian Waffle makers have to be specifically designed
to make them. Here are the 3 key ways that the Belgian
Waffle iron is different than “Classic Waffle makers”.
1. Deep Pockets: not that you
need deep pockets to buy them, but that the batter
wells are capacious enough to bake the waffle to
the traditional thickness.
2. Browning Control: getting just
the right crispness on Belgian Waffles is trickier
and more desirable than on classic waffles, and
requires more instrumentation.
3. Rotary Feature: this makes
the waffle maker rotate, which is necessary to promote
even baking of this thick, light waffle.
