From Swissmar, manufacturer of European kitchenware such as fondues and raclettes, comes the Lugano, traditional fondue set. Fondue originated in Switzerland as a means of survival during the long, cold winter months when shepherds were isolated in the snow-covered mountains. As fresh food becamse carce, leftover pieces of cheese were melted in wine to make a creamy cheese sauce into which stale pieces of bread were dipped. The combination of these two ingredients made a very nourishing meal. From these humble beginnings a tradition was born.
